Anatomy of a Web Site
Developing a web site is like building a house. While there are many components of a web site these are the 4 most important ones:
Domain name is compared to your house street address – this is an annual subscription paid to your domain provider, i.e. GoDaddy, Network Solutions, etc. If the subscription expires your web site will no longer display and the domain can be purchased by someone else. It is usually best to have your domain set to auto-renew.
Web hosting is the equivalent to the land / property your house is on – a web site resides on web server which provides web hosting; without it your web site cannot exist on the Internet. Web hosting can be a monthly, quarterly or annual subscription provided by Tekhead.com, Eight Hats, GoDaddy.com, etc. If it goes unpaid your web hosting can be suspended and your web site will no longer display on the Internet.
Web site design is like the building contractor – the web designer constructs your web site. This is usually done with a deposit given by the client to the web designer with the balance due upon completion. Kalaco Solutions provide web site design.
Web site theme is the interior design / decorator for your home of business – the theme or look of your web site is applied to your web site to give your web site the desired look. There may be a purchase fee for obtaining the theme and some theme developers require an annual fee for continued support and updates of the theme. The updates are part of security purposes and for bug fixes, etc.
